News from Sue December 2015
I hope you will have a blessed Christmas season remembering what Jesus Christ did for us. I wanted to paint a watercolor card to send friends for Christmas, but I ran out of time. I have the envelopes all ready for anyone for which I have a physical address. I hope to send a watercolor card and perhaps a new prayer card early next year.
When I should have been thinking of a Christmas mailing, my focus was on researching and ordering Gospel literature. My favorite tract to give out is the word-less book Good News bracelet. I have given out 336 of them. Recently, I was running out of the tracts that go with the bracelets. I decided to work on my own tract. This is currently in progress. I hope I can also make it in other languages by copying Scripture from the Internet. That way I will also have something to give Internationals in their own language.
This time of year, I receive letters from friends catching me up on their lives. So I will also do a year-end summary. One of the highlights of this year is my feeling settled in Tucson after living here ten years. The 42 days of the bus strike, gave me time to research and think about moving to another town or state. I concluded that it is not His will. It is somewhat funny that I would consider a move at age 64, when I find even traveling difficult. I guess it goes to prove how we don’t even understand ourselves sometimes. However, the Lord did have some changes in mind for me. I am really enjoying giving our Gospel literature instead of seeking more Internationals to help with English. I still meet some with Irene. I hesitated about this change for a while, but now I feel the Lord has shown me what I am best suited for at this point in my life.
On the practical side, this year I cleaned out papers, books and other possessions. When my stove broke, I researched a better way to cook. My one-burner induction cooker is easy to clean so it is a major time saver. Another time saver was covering the tile kitchen counter with clear vinyl plastic. Hurray! I don't have to scrub the grout anymore. I also save time by using a metal bowl in a water-filled crock-pot to cook rice or oatmeal. The bowl is much easier to clean than the crock-pot. Sewing is going faster since I learned to sew without pins from a DVD. While it doesn’t save time, it does save money reproducing my watercolor paintings to make greeting cards. It seems I should have more time, but things like riding the public buses uses a lot of time.
I bought a small "tablet “so now I can use the Wi-Fi just a 10-minute walk from my house. I feel I need to do more email and less stamped mail. So if I have your email address I will send this letter that way, you also can send me your newsletters by email.
I am very grateful to have done two things I really wanted to do in life. In High school and two years at a community college, I took art classes. I still enjoy doing art once in awhile. The other is that I was able to serve the Lord overseas even though my health forced me to leave the Philippines 25 years ago. The Lord has allowed me to continue to serve Him. How I thank Him for you who have supported and prayed for me so I can do this. I continue learning what God values, worship, a meek and quite spirit, and simple service as seen in Mary of Bethany and Dorcas. (John 12, Acts 9)
Change the first part as not send all email people a card but they can request a prayer card
