Dear Friends and Family
As people say, “things could always be worse”. Take Fionna’s cat for instance, she just got back from the vet from a minor surgery. We expect this will keep the meowing of stray cats down in our yard. The dog is going thru a second treatment of rash meds and parasite meds. We just have colds so what’s the big deal.
Last night Janel and I went on a double date with Delwin and Techy Fowler, they showed us a nice little place for grilled meat. We took along our canasta card game and played a couple rounds there. The staff and some visitors were giving us the evil eye for tying up the place after our meal was gone so we had to finish our game at the Fowlers. The kids had pizza with the Fowler kids and the boys were doing a three way chess game. Missionary kids find very interesting things to do.
Funny coincidence for Janel and I. We started an online course in Biblical Counseling and within the first few days we were bombarded with one on one sessions of various sorts. Some of these are quite casual and simple but one case persists and we are meeting weekly to follow up. Also, the men’s meeting (now disbanded) asked me to go thru a set of family life workshops. They were very excited about that, so we did the workshop again but at our home and with the wives present. Very lively and I think people got a kick out of coming to our place. Once this 2nd workshop wrapped up the elders asked that I teach a workshop on how to teach/preach. My notes on that subject are really long but I used some lesson notes that dad had shared with me recently and we got thru it in about 4 hot and sweaty hours. 20 people crowded in our house, what a party. We will have to rethink our meeting venue if this keeps up.
Our bible school year is wrapping up in a big hurry. Micah is teaching the course on End Time Events, then we have a one week course on Dangers to the Church (sects). Graduation will be (DV) happening the 1st of October. Diplomas and certificates are being signed - a little early but we don’t expect flunkies at this stage. We are also expecting some very important visitors during this time. The Howards (elders from our home church) arrive soon and the Coverts are coming to visit for the second time and will be here for graduation as well. CMML is visiting Peru so the Parsons will be here shortly before graduation.
There is a river trip planned with the students at the end of Micah’s course and Isaac and I will tag along. This will be their last river adventure. After graduation our family is packing up for a long multi-stage trip. 1. Missionary conference in Trujillo, 2. Oregon wedding and short furlough in US and 3. a weeklong training conference in Cajamarca on our return. This will all make for some interesting packing.
Please pray for our students finishing up the year and returning to serve …set up for the next year; teachers, students, team mates, promotions and more … for our family’s heath and travel plans.
Thank you for your prayer and support, Jesse, Janel, Fionna and Isaac
